But the person I bought it from was growing some plants

what kind of plants? hmmm?:grinno:

if you were going to run actinics with it i would use like a 10,000K but you could just use a 14,000K if you wanted to

yeah.. the 10K w/actinics give good clean white look to the tank as well as supplimenting some blue light

the 14K is bluer than the 10K

really the only time i would have JUST a 20K light is if it was a coral propigation tank that i wasn't keeping for looks
you can go with a high K light and have your corals grow like weeds, i just think the whiter light of the medium K looks best

I always use 14k bulbs as i feel it gives a happy medium of light color...I never use actinics..

14 k looks the best in my opion

I dont have the luxury of being able to use both....Just the halide will be above the tank for now-I might beable to place a thin light strip somewhere with Actinics....

Sounds like I might be best with a 14K to suits my needs/or should I say to make me happy...

Could you please post a pic of your tank in this thread with only the 14K lights on please......It would be greatly appreciated...

yeah if it's just a pendulum light or a retrofit and you don't have another bulb attachment (floro, t5, etc) the 14 is a good medium, i almost alway have other bulbs so i go with the 10K/actinic combo..

for a stand alone light i agree the 14 would be best

this was (supposedly) under 14000K HQI light
