Went to our LFS and they had hydor 400w heaters for 32.99. Picked one up for my new 100g sump. I had a ehiem Jagger 250 and an ebo Jagger 250 in the sump. Both ran pretty constant and struggled to keep the tank at 80.

72 hours with the hydor 400w in and I'm dead on at 82 and it seems to only run 12-14 hours a day. I'm very pleased with this heater. Right now there's approx 200g in my system and no lid on the sump.

let see how long it last with that efficiency.

I have had the 300w hydor for over a year now with no issues. I hope this one is as good quality.

with so many people getting problem with these Hydor heaters, it would be lucky if you don't have any problem. But I do find them having a lot of problem on controlling the temperature and a lot of time the temperature will run higher than the temperature I set. The jager would shut off right when it reach the temp that needed.

Whats the room temperature typically Luke?

I am hoping to heat 180g with a 300w hydor inline

I've had issues with hydors personally. I had a 300w, and 200w just die. They just stopped working. Had a 300w in a very good flow position on my 125 just stop working entirely. Was not fun watching my tank temp fall to under 70F. Prior the tank was stable with a 1-2 degree swing in 24 hours in the winter time. Summer time is rare and maximum of 1 degree. Yesterday tank started at 76.3 and at the end of the day warming up was 77.1 this morning it's 76.5. 200w wasn't used for a total of 3 months and it never came on and heated up when I went to go use it again.

No cracks in the heater, adjustment nob had no play and no issues, outlet(s) had power, and they just weren't working.

Personally, I like fluval's heaters. Just not aesthetically being a flipping cylindrical mirror. Have a 300w on my 125 now and I have the same regulation as the hydor did. and it's running strong for 3 years in february. Went oversized (for good reason in my new hospital tank) with a 200w on a 34g. It doesn't even have a swing of half a degree in that tank with an AC vent pointed right at it, and in a 10x9 room that has a 52 inch fan.

That's the only thing I notice. There off by 1-2 degrees on both my heaters. I'll keep everyone updated.

I personally have 3 jager 250's here that won't heat. Light comes on but no heat. These cheap heaters are all prone to failure in my opinion.

Generally 24c but the last few weeks it's been -20 out and I have a window open with a fan for humidity and it's gotten pretty cold inside.
