My bigger Tat sits at the identicle angle....
Some tats do but the giveaway for scombs is their puny little tailfin compared to tats and armatus tails...Maybe you should put that skinny tat in isolation where it can be fattened up without competition.

I am thinking about that....trying to size up the AT in my other tank.

Try to house it alone if you can.The AT will outeat the tat and it might even bully it.The tat should have no other company except a good supply of small feeders for it to pick off when it feels comfortable enough to do so.How about a temparary divider?

I am out of tanks! This tank currently has only the 1.5" At and the 6" Tat. I added some good cover. So far they are ignoring each other. This At used to live with Tiger barbs, a small Albino sengal, a pearl gourami.....never bothered anyone until I introduced two smaller At dats. Thats why he is isolated in the first place. i have a trade arranged for him so this is temporary!

That's no Scomb - the apistole fin would be clear with a black dot not red with a dot. Also the hummeral spot on your Tat is football shaped, Scombs are smaller and roundish.Tail fin looks pretty red to me and I have no clue where this angle stuff comes in theirs no validity to it. Scombs swim on all kinds of angles from prone to prostrate. My Scomb is dead horizantal most of the time, swims horizontal, and generally only swims on angles when hunting. I've seen these same angles on Tats, Arms, and Rhaphs. Unless I'm missing something and please do explain.

Small Round Hummeral spot and See Dead Horizanal, the pic is compressed click it to get up close and personal for compaisson to your new Tat.

I think the angle comes from the fact that most juvi scombs tend to swim at a headstander angle most of the time, or at least from what I have seen.

The picture is 100% tat, scombs are the roundest payara and at 6" tend to look fat from the big ones I have seen. Also, scombs do have tiny tailfins. My tat also likes to rest at an angle, but when he swims he usually straightens out.
