Picked up a nifty 50mm lens...damn!

nice shot.

thanks guys! this is my first "real" lens other than the kit lens. this things is FAST! i love how quick the AF is. had to take the shot from a few feet back, because at f/1.8 the DOF is so narrow, wanted to get the whole fish in focus.

i'll have to reduce the aperture and get some more shots, but i'll use my speedlight for that

i use my 50 more than any other lense also, the fish colors just pop(increase the shutter speed and watch the difference in color)

Nice shot! Love how it captured the colors of the fish and displays the background.

Nice jose how come you can use different lenses now,as ive got a d90 so interested in some info.

well because the d40, 50, 60, 70(?), 3000, 5000 lack an internal focus motor which means it can only use the expensive AF-S lenses. af-s lenses have a focus motor in them, but this means a lot more money!

AF, $80-100

AF-S, $450+!!

yeah its a great lens. Gerry was saying the 60mm f/2.8 is even sharper, but at $80 for this lens, i couldnt go wrong. i picked up Li's old D90

Nope, you can't go wrong except.....

ohhh and bro the only thing I don't like is it makes him look alot smaller than he is.

This is the issue I have with the 50. Focal length is just not very good for shooting medium sized fish.

Nice pic, Jose. :)

Not just the sw motor, but also look at the difference in aperture between the lenses. ;)

thanks Gerry. yeah i know the 1.4 is reason for being more expensive as well. but does 1.4 vs 1.8 make that much of a difference for aquatic photography? i dont even think ill ever shoot at 1.8 because of the narrow DOF, just wanted to test it out
