I cannot for the life of me figure out what this fish is. It's either a sagitae or a zaliosus

black devil is usually referred to saggitae but honestly if you dont know for sure theres no way to tell by the pics as it could be any variation of the barred midas gang albeit pure or not. With amphs if you dont have lineage proper identification is borderline at best and for the most part not possible. They all look too similar. Zaliosus tend to taper more towards the tail thus the name "arrow cichlid" and that guy looks not to have that build and looks more midas-shaped than anything. Track down where it came from and maybe you can get a better id cause we cant do anything but guess here. Nice amph though.

Well the lfs owner had it labelled as Black Devil. Doing more research it turns out this fish is F1 Sagittae, it was brought in on trade from someone who ordered in several and only kept a breeding pair and sold his extra female.

I'm 90% that is Sagattae( sp?) The person who brought them in was selling them as "Black Devils" & there was only one other case of Black Devils being sold.
The other time it was when I spread Vic's Amarillo around& one of the LFS labeled them as black devils.... & that's NOT a Amarillo
