o, as for growth, mine reached sexual maturity in under 6 months and is currently 9 inches at the 10 month mark. Her growth has slowed a bit but they grow fairly fast with good food and clean water

Also make sure they have a cave to get out of the light. Axolotl's don't have eyelids, so they need somewhere to go where it's nice and dark. I really enjoyed my two that I kept for a little over a year. I never had any problems keeping them, I fed mine earthworms. I also 2nd shenanigans suggestion of not putting a heater in there. They like it cold, so keep it to 68 or lower.
Also make sure there is no gravel in the tank, axolotls are terrible about sucking up gravel and becoming impacted.

I used to have an axolotl, here he is View attachment 861186
Unfortunately I made the fatal mistake of housing him with two blood parrots, I woke up one day to find him dead and missing all his legs, still kicking myself now :(

+1 on carsona, NO GRAVEL. Use whatever sand you like, but if you use gravel your axol is going to eat it one day and that is a death sentence. Almost all fish species are a no no with axols. Some will be eaten by the axol, but even small peaceful fish can pick at the feathery gills and harm the axol. Large ones will simply kill it. As easy as they are, axols can be fragile and do not like abuse of any kind.

African butterfly fish?

Its a good possibility, but the water will be a bit cool for the butterfly to flourish. It could work
