they are Filter feeders ... Form what i have read the past half of the year :) Most kill theirs because the will not reallise this is the rest of what i read :)

But I cannot state from personal experience... SInce the fact that they filter feed pretty much stopped me form wanting one as of yet :)

i got a lil insight from everything i read on here. sponge filters help with raising them. they grow slow. eat small invertabrae. plankton and other stuff. and eat all day long rather then spread out portions. so im buying a sponge filter today when i get off work.

i was more jus asking to see if anyone who actually raised one from this small had something they used to feed it and it actually worked out. like a certain kinda pellet, or certain kinda frozen food. orr even certain kinda fd food. thanks for the help guys

Hey ethnics try using frozen blood worms or live black worms. That's what I used and I now have two that are doing great. I have one that is about 22-23" and the other one is about 8". Once they get around 6" try giving them some Hikari Sinking Carnivore pellets, the two of them just pig out on it. I hope this helps and I'll try and post some pics of my two when I get a chance.

ya dude post some pics if u can, i'd love to see them. i was trying sinkng hikari pellets last night but imma try to crush them up n try them again. but i wanna try cut up shrimp into small small peices too. thanks for the tip dude, im gonna get some more blood worms today

Ethnics, Oddball raised a couple ( one is 24" if I remember ). Go talk to him. All other advice, well intended it may be, but there's not a lot of people who've had them...

congradulations on the new addition.. we fed ours frozen blood worms and frozen brine shrimp after you get it going good on those introduce the small arow pellets.. and your on your way to a growing thriving Arow..lots of luck!:)Mine was 4 inches when i got him and now he is 26inches.. 4 years later.{if for some reason the little guy gives you a hard time about eating then small tiny crickets..but only at last resort.. they love them and they like to see them moving..

oh i am sorry ..i just have a silver...too much sun today.. but would they be that different...:)

most def they are different.... africans are from africa... :P

tip on decor.... (as i have no arows) bamboo is a very "soft" wood and will rot in the tank.. you need to make it water proof before you use it... a few coats of epoxy and and a siliconed base to slate will help hold it.. and have a field of bamboos in the corner is way cool... espesially when the aros swim through them :headbang2

post some pics and keep us updated

i think he's eating shrimp cut and ripped into small small pieces. i threw so much shrmp in there today and less then a few hours later there was nothing left. but i didnt visually see him eat it since he jus moves around lookin for food, for the 30 mins i sat n watched he didnt eat any of it. but after i turned off the lights n went outside to work on my car for a while, came back in a few hours later n everything was gone. hope thats a good sign, gonna try more today n see if i can watch him eat it.
