Picked up my first FH today...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i just dont see many females with humps, a few but not most. but im sure you know more than i do.

Thanks guys, I only took this fish because the guy wanted it gone and he had the only rays in town, and after I agreed to take him, he decided he was not going to part with the pair of motoro's he had. Better to leave with something than nothing at all. I kind of think he gave the fish to me to compensate for the drive across town.

flowerline and pearling looks nice but must agree that he may not come out with great color
and like they say can't beat free

nuchal hump's have nothing to do with whether or not the fish is a male or female.
Humps actually have a good bit to do with male and female... Most females(90%) will not get a hump at all. That percentage may even be higher...

I would say this fish is a female judging by the body structure and finage. Let it grow out a little more to be sure and vent it or post up some pix of vent around 3"-4" range... As for quality... Well price tells alot. It prolly won't be anything special but for a first FH it's not a bad start. Feed it a wide variety of foods and a good staple pellet. Hope you enjoy your new FH and it becomes personable for you like most do!;)

The first pic is around the day I was given the fish. The second one was taken today.

i am going to guess male. i like this body style. this fish looks alot like my male. i would wait and get some more opinions on the sex. if you are into breeding and it is a male, you can pick up beautiful females for like a third of the price of a beautiful male. then you could breed color into your fry. i also like the babies with the pointy nose.

I already vented this fish, with my lack of knowledge in the practice of venting I'd say it looked more like a U and say I'm 75% sure it's a female. The last picture doesn't do the reds or the pearling on this fish any justice whatsoever.

it has great colors, but i wouldnt risk it in there with the aro, if it wants to it could take a bite out of it

The Fh is in a divided 30 with a female rd atm, the aro is in another tank with my reticulated "tea cup" rays. Considering selling the ray and aro to get into the fh hobby a little deeper.
