So I was at the LFS and they had some larger male cons.. by larger I mean in the 3-3.5" range, larger then I've ever seen in person :D Well I was walking around and someone turned in a mature con male it was 5.5-6".. I was like :drool: So I asked about it and they wanted $30 so I passed

Ended up getting 2 males that are about 3" and 3.5" and two females about 1.5-2". The lady told me the males were $10 each and the females were $3.50 so I pointed out where the tag said convicts $3.50. Well her excuse was she just got them in today and has not put the correct price up but she gave them to me for $3.50 as well. Not too shabby of a day.

Two are in my 50 breeder divided with my wolf fish while the other two are in my 120g. I was worried about them picking on my senegals at first but now I'm not as they are spending all of their time being chased by my red wolf fish :grinno:

Yea.. I was not about to pay $30 for a fish with the soul purpose of breeding feeders no matter how cool he was.. and he was awesome!

Man your tank is going to be infested with fry, they are breeding machines....I don't even know what to do with my frys. My male keeps chasing my female wanting to mate again.

Thats the idea :D

Actually I have a feeling the bichirs and rope fish will pick off most of the fry in that tank. The fry in the other tank will grow out some and become feeders for my wolf fish and dovii.

Convict fry will not be "picked" off by a bichir or rope...lol Or a adult jag, or pretty much anything else that does not want to loose its eyes while getting double teamed....The pair are like bumble bees when trying to protect...Someone will die before any fry are consumed...

they aren't such good parents forever... the fry are eventually killed or kicked out by the parents.

I have 3 pair of cons, and I get one batch of fry every 3 months or so (it would be more often if I wasn't constantly vacuuming and rearranging things). very, very rarely do I have even a single one survive to adulthood with the larger cichlids in my tank.
