maybe i'm incapable of utilizing the search function because i can't seem to find any 20"+ black/blue arowana pictures. except the one in the sticky.

about the rtg, i've seen that alot of them (~16") tend to be silver with tinted red tail, and i have seen some that are a dark gold with a tinted red tail. is this dependent on the 'quality' of the fish or will they all develop the dark gold colour when they get older?

The reason why the fish look pale is due to background colour. Keep them in dark background tank with good lights on them 24/7 will definately give you a good gold tone fish.

I actually prefer blacks to all Asians except reds

If I had to make a choice.. It would be Black ;)

i'd go black...for me asain aros are just colourful jardinis(only cause i'm aussie)...however.. i know there far different hehe

thanks bderick, those blacks are impressive.

a few stores around here got their stock of ~10" black arowanas for $250 and selling fast. their next shipment of rtgs is at $400 although i'm unsure of their 'quality'. btw GTA = greater toronto area.

argh. i think the black still looks too similar to the silver. i think if i were to get it i'd have to be bloody rich and get one of those massive custom tanks and start a big comm of silvers and blacks as i saw in that thread.

so...i'm leaning towards the RTG...although i'd have to research and possibly invest into all that lighting stuff...thanks everyone

My RTg is just over 16" is in a tank with gravel substrate and black background. It is housed with dats, dollars, a group of pearsei and rays. I have no special lighting just normal white tubes and this is mine:
