thanks for the comments everyone ! its leslies pool filter sand (available at leslies pool supplies) . i think they use different sand regionally because i've seen other people use it and it looks different . i imagine sand is expensive to ship so they use whatevers close ... and no goldfish , just a couple of swordtails .

lol I keep a pair of swordtails in one of my geo tanks as well. Was my 7 year olds fish and put it in the tank when I took his down. Luckiest damn swordtail on the west coast , that tank gets pampered.

Beautiful fish. I love Geos and would like to set up a strickly Geo tank with a couple different types and the sand looks really nice.
