the big orange is a midas. i think it's female. it's a 100g growout. the aggression level is not bad, but when i put the 5 star in there. the grammode hated him right away. i don't know if it's because he's new or if he looks similar to the grammode so he sees him as competition. the other fish pretty much leave the 5 star alone.

Your grammode is showing more aggression due to how the 5 start was introduced. The grammodes is seeing a new fish as an invader of his territory. The grammodes and midas may have already established a pecking order. Maybe take out the cichlids and re-arrange things then introduce the cichlids. Only do that if the agression is bad.

the grammodes is definately a male. I still keep 5 stars with my male grammodes at the moment. Ime all 4 male grammodes that ive kept hated 5 stars, even more than other nandopsis and parachromis species. its wierd. hope it works out for you. personally if the 5 star starts to dominate the grammode and harass him to the point of not being able to feed I would take him out

i kept hemichromis breeding pair in a smaller sized cichlid comunity with no problems at all, they are very territorial but they dont outright murder everything in site.
