Wait till yall see the lights im going to try out. The plan is for two 400w MH in lumnarc reflectors that should spread the light the full 8' of the tank. There will be a hole cut through the top of the canopy and the lights will sit up there so 2' off the water. We will see how it looks and what the temp/alge does. I already have them so I am going to try them out...if not...ill switch to florescents. The tanks going to be a all male hap/peacock tank.
 
Here is where the tank is going to be...next to the kitchen. The stand finish will be the same as the cabinets. Those are the lights I plan to try out...but the will be 2' off the top of the tank so its not so intense and will spread more. The tank will be sitting higher too...its just on cinder blocks to keep it off the floor for now.

A closer shot of the tank...thats where im going to put the wood and ill have a few larger non stacked chunks of rock here and there...mainly in that left open area.

I am going to use 3M black S grade color quarts.

Yeah it will be a lot of light...im going to try it since I had them from past projects...but at 2' off the tank the light isnt as bright as in those pics. May still be too much...but we will see.
 
WHERE CAN I FIND SOME OF THOSE LIGHTS? DOES THAT MAKE THE COLOR OF THE AFRICAN CICHLIDS SHOW BETTER? IF SO I NEED TO GET SOME...
