Pics Of My 55G Tank

Hello moonchild1970,

i would also recommend EHEIM - their filtration systems are enormous long-life built (in my smaller 200 l tank i do have a filter since 15(!) years and it still works well!) and easy to handle. Due to their world-wide distribution i think you would easily get replacement parts if needed.
For my bigger tank (330 l) i'm using a TETRAtec EX 1200 - also a very good filtration system. It's nearly noiseless and absolutely easy to clean if needed ...
I clean up my filtration systems once in a year only - my water is crystal clear at all ... partial water changes all 4-6 weeks.
These rhythms of cleaning services seem to be a bit lousy. But the water condition is always ok - no nitrat/nitrit, constant pH 6,8 ...
The substrate at the ground also works as a "filter" (living room of "good" bacteria as a well-driven filter is) and plants (the more the better) are also take positive effects to the water quality!

I've never lost a bichir since i'm keeping bichirs ...

Greetings

Uwe

Moonchild1970,

If money is not a factor in buying a filter then go with Eheims. Eheims have a strong reputation of lasting over 10 years. If you want to save and still have quality equivalent to an Eheim then I recommend Rena XP3. I have a Rena XP3 and Eheim 2026. I like both filters but in the future I probably would not be paying for one Eheim which is the price of two Rena XP3. I rather save this money and spend it on fish. An Eheim Pro II 2028 along with one Hang on the Back Filter should be the perfect filter setup for a 55gallon.

Aquaclear 70 is what i use, excellent filtration on it. I use 2 of them for my 60 gallon tank. The filters and filter arent expensive to buy, and very easy to maintain.
