If your not gonna go with any deco at all, maybe you could paint the back black... Idk if painting the bottom black would make a difference or not.. but I'm sure it would make their colors even more vibrant!

discus will get stressed if they have nothing to hide in. They like plants like large swords and vals. they are also fond of branching driftwood

Not really, there are NO plants in the wild where discus come from. Just branchy pieces of wood.

As for the black background, that's probably the worst color choice for discus. Any pigeon-based discus will pepper up a lot in a dark tank, especially planted tanks.
