Looks completely normal to me...other than the blue?

Which is pretty astonishing no matter what.

Somewhat surprised you can get hybrid angels...angels hate each other quite a bit, let alone other species.

I also find it to be very unlikely to be a hybrid. However, it is a beautiful fish regardless. I really want to try one in my reef but am too scared haha.

I was told that this was a cross between Centropyge loriculus and Centropyge shepardi. Thats the only reason I said hybrid. It could be a hybrid thats what it sold fro or it just could be a misbar who knows. Still its got a very different pattern for any normal C. loriculus.

THere is a short article in the January issue of Aquarium Fish International
writtten by Jim Walters, page 69. It seems there are some angels recently imported as Shepard's angels (Centropyge sheperdi), but they are now know to be hybrids between flame (C. loriculus) and rusty (C. ferrugata) angels, based on collection locations. They all seem to have great variation in their appearance though. Nice looking fish you have.

I've seen a couple of these is diff lfs with blue on the rear of the fish... This isn't normal for a flame angel?

How is it classified as a hybrid, it looks like a run of the mill flame angel to me...collection points play a role in whether or not the tail is purple or blue.
