I have a 110 GAL planted tank, use standard flourescent lighting (1x4ft strip and 2x12" strips), sand / flourite mix substrate about 3-4" deep, stocked to the hilt with fish, and FULL of plants. Been up and running over a year. NO CO2 system needed. Plants gow great. Have about 9-10 different kinds of plants

I will try to post photos soon. But you can do it without spending a fortune, just pick your plants accordingly (lower light and Co2 requirements).
