Use a test kit that is for fresh and salt, I use the API but SeaChem is really nice as well. You want to get yourself a very good hydrometer or even better yet, get yourself a refractometer.
 
i have a hydrometer. Just wondering, Would a FW snowflake be a good first eel? Im going to make sure the lid is tight and all holes or covered with duck tape if need be. lol
What else would i be able to look at being in there with him? I would like to look and search my options. thanks
