well i've bought a gold nugget with a sunken belly and successfully got it to start eating again and stuff... dunno about sunken eyes though...maybe once the plec has sunken eyes its too far gone to save

i've never seen a plec with sunken eyes before - can someone post up a pic so we can all have an idea? also what happens to the plec for its eyes to sink in? obviously because of lack of nutrition but what happens to make its eyes sink in?

Have you tried to feed it bacon I have heard that helps

Just kidding please put that gun down Neer, just funning ya!!!

ok in all seriousness now, I would think that it has to do with being underfed.

If you can get the fish to eat I would think that this would fix itself over time, unless it is a deformation that has happened to the fish due to being somewhat stunted. I tend to agree that it has to do with a fatty tissue around the eyes. Seeings how plecs eat i would think a malnourished plec implodes somewhat. Hope you can get your fish to recover, sorry I dont have any thing other than my thoughts to contribute.

Not necessarily... Underfed is an issue of course.. But stress and infection can cause a Pleco to starve itself...

I actually had to hand fed my L-14 that was hit with the same disease.. ITS NOT PRETTY! i can tell u that for sure..

Plecos will actually stop eating if they are sick.. it is those moments that u must quickly feed and transfer to another tank...

My situation with my Chocolate is that he gotten worst after his first medication treatment.. The disease (Velvet) i think.. kept coming back.. and He was also very old.. a 6+ year old fish.. So he was def not as strong in terms of immunity as my other plecos...

So underfed isnt an issue at all.. because a pleco can have lots of food and they still wont eat if they have illness.... the result is starvation.. and death... :(

Oh.. and for the record... U can cure it.. by hand feeding the fish.. I had to move my goldie towards the food and wait until he finishing eating.. I did it for 1 week.. by day 5 he was alot better and was eating nicely.. but it was very stressful.. I had moments where i thought i would lose a $150 dollar fish...

I would also agree the jquan...

Stress has a lot to contribute to the illness. I have seen plecs with slighty sunken eyes or bellies, that ate fine and seemed all good for months. The stressors like poor water quality, tankmates, or no QT is what eventually did them in.
