anyone know what kind??? im new to this and have 2 55g tanks one comm, one cichlids. I didn't know overcrowding was bad i had 14 cichlids in my tank:confused: i came on this site yest. and learned alot. I took 4 out and got nothing for them and drove 30mins. But im glad they wont be stressed. Im down to 10 now some small some bigger. The hap is the biggiest. Is this ok for now to have 10???

It looks like it might be a Nimbochromis Venustus and the average adult size is about 10.5". I had a 6 yr old male that was 11" long when he died this year. I could not keep other fish with him so he was in a 75G by himself for the last couple years.

What other fish do you have in that tank? How big is he now?
 
its funny the convict causes him and the convict is like 4inches. is it because i added the convict first? also my yellow lab is real aggressive is that because of the con and yell being added first?
 
venustus get too big for a 55 in my opinion.

overcrowding isn't necessarily a bad thing for africans. overcrowding helps spread aggression.

south americans such as convict cichlids have very different water requirements than africans and while you will read about people who have success housing south americans and africans together i personally think it is a horrible idea. i am sure this is a controversial topic however it boils down to forcing one of the two to live in water conditions that are not its natural habitat.
