PICTURE OF YOUR BEAUTYFUL KOI POND

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Original was 2 barrels, one 45W UV light and one small out side skimmer. There is no pressure filer. I could went for combination of Bio and Pressure filter, but it cost way over what I had in mind. So I had to make a choice between Bio or Pressure filter. The pressure is easy to clean the filter. Just back wash and done. However, it expensive to get and replace the unit later on. Some of the people I know they had Pressure filter and they told me that they don't like it. They said that at first it works great, but later on their fish kept getting sick because the bacteria in the filter doesn't have enough to consume the toxic fish waste. Well I went with the Bio. I recycled some 55 - 60 gal barrels and turned it to Bio filter. Today my fish got bigger so I add on 4 more Barrels an one large skimmer. The large skimmer is the last pic picture.

I'm impressed with that pond.. and gotta ask.. How are u able to keep them without another bother from rodents...???

I have a koi pond but I've given up on it years ago because my neighborhoods have racoons.. It has terrorized my pond before to the point that the only fish in there now are oversized feeder fish.. (6"+) :irked:

its a really crappy pond.. My dad and I build some 15years ago.. Theres a minor leak but we Haven't kept much Koi since.. Its about 1500 gallon.. but its poinless to keep any tropical fish since its outdoor..

Heres pic of it... (note) fish might not be in picture.....

My Koi pond does not have room to plant some aquatic plants and the koi may eat it. I just decorated with tropical plants to make the the pond look natural as possible. The weather here where I am living in is between 100*F to 20* F . I love tropical look, but with this harsh weather I had to train my plant to do well in this condition. My choice are Bromeliad Neo. , Succulents, Cymbidium Orchid, Spanish Moss, Stage Horn fern , Philodendron, Monstera, Dendrobium Orchid And Disa Orchid. The Monstera I had to train it for 2 years so it could live out side. The Dendrobium Orchid I have to cover it in the winter. Here are some picture of surrounding of the pond.

so you've NEVER had any attack from wild animals? I'm impressed.... I've tried having a net installed along with the length of the pond.. but racoons were able to figure it out and push the whole net off and hunt..

Granted it was probably 2-3 attacks in one winter.. but it was enough to make my dad cringe and sadly stopped.. :(

Any trick to how you keep wild animals away?

In the past my client has the problem like your. The raccoon ate all of their fishes. I put on chicken wire for them and so no more fish for the raccoon. Every one I know whom has a pond all has the same problem with raccoon and big bird. we are living in their place so don't feel bad about wild animal. Just don't give them food, then they will go away. My pond is a deep pond 5' but I only fill up 4' of water. The animal can not reach water for fish. If they jump in they have to dive in to the water to get fish. Because of deep water of my pond ,there are no wild animal to bother dive down. I do have raccoon visit my pond 1 or 2 time a year but it come and go with out fish or food.:)

What's kind of net did you install ? you have to build a wood frame around your pond and the chicken wire secure nail on in side wood frame. the fame has to have lock on the pond wall. The wood frame can be remove for maintaining the pond but have to lock it when you don't .
