Thanks RD!!! Wish I could help you out!!! And you are right on breeders trying to sell Carpintis Hybrids as RT's....I myself have fell for this....but they are nice fish nonetheless. Here is one of mine for reference.... The growth rate was astounding!!! Feb 1.75 Inches to 7inches at least now!!!

There's no problem in finding quality red texas that have faded, and are actually red. You just have to be willing to pay for them.
Seems like everyone is breeding & selling red texas these days, with a lot of them turning out just like your fish, which in my books is nothing more than a hybrid carpintis.
Very true. This one of the 'Hot" fish on the market for past year or so. Another contributing factor is breeders that arnt culling properly. Alot of RT fry wont carry the fading gene, but are still being sold as RT. This is ok regarding the fertility issue, but like you said, its not a red tex if its not red, Just a Carpintis hybrid. RT's coming out of Thailand are faded at less than 2in. Cj your female RT is very nice, Those fry have Big potential. $5 is a steal too, wish i had the room.

Red texas fade at different times in their life. Not every red texas fades before 2" like you said and red texas have been a "hot" fish for a lot longer than a year. They've just became cheaper over the past year because everybody selling hybrid texas as red texas and all the noobs buying them up like the link RD provided us with. http://www.flowerhorncraze.com/index.php?showtopic=107034

To expect the breeder to cull all the ones that aren't going to fade is just ignorance. It's not a "fading gene" that makes them fade. Fish from the same batch carry the same genetics but only a percentage of them are going to fade. It's a dominant and recessive thing and it only comes out in some of the fry.

I think that the bottom line is if your heart is set on a stunning red texas, then buy one that is already faded, and showing its potential at an early age. (or buy & a bunch cheap & roll the dice)

A lot of the nicer ones that you see coming out of SE Asia are bred from male/female RT's, so that has a major effect on how many of the fry are going to produce true RT offspring. My male turned out to be infertile, but proven pairs of RT's do come up for sale in SE Asia, but they don't come cheap. An associate of an importer that I know paid approx $1,200 US for a proven pair (he actually purchased 3 proven pairs), and sold all 3 pairs to a customer in Japan the following day. (probably for more than double of what he paid) That was well over a yr ago, and I believe he only got that good of a deal as he bought 3 pairs.

Mine were both adult size, and cost $300+ US each (+ shipping) from the supplier in Singapore. They were given to me as a gift so I wasn't complaining, and IMO these were only so-so quality, certainly not nearly as nice as some of the RT's out there.

woooh !!!! hotly debated i see ..I am mostly into south american peacock bass but i also like color variety i picked him Or her at a good price and liked the looks at 1.5 inches I was just asken if it would fade or not guys cuz i am not an expert at all and really did not know for sure what i was buying..

So you are saying that this fish should have faded by now. Is it better then to keepfry that already show signs of red or orange or keep all fry and see if any fade or peel. All of this is new to me and I want to know what to look for to produce top quality fish will top quality red texas always through red fry or does the culling have to contiue thanks for any help.

Wow, Hulon! I don't know what's considered a Red Texas, but that doesn't look like your average Texas. Lots of red. Nice!

And your bass picture looks horrible. I hate bass...lol
