The copyright act says that all photographs belong to the photographer.

You cannot assume any rights to use a photo just because it is already published.
While it is sometimes acceptable to 'borrow' other people's pictures if there is no commercial useage involved you should really have permission in writing. If you cannot get permission to use a photo then assume the answer is "NO"

Credit should be given where due.

I know what the law is yes, but if it should be followed here on MFK,
a lot of pictures had to be deleted

Have you guys read the safe harbor law? It deals with copy righted content on websites.

The big thing about copyrights is that you have to be able to show how you were harmed by the unlawfull use of the copyrighted material to be able to recover anything from the user.

Do any of you drive faster than the posted speed limit?

I agree with DavidW but in this case I don't think we have to be this strick.
