i've yet to be in a LFS that DIDNT carry died parrot fish. i think the best method is to talk to managers / owners and explain how disturbed you are. my local LFS didn't see anything wrong with the practice until i mentioned it; they are just supplying a demand. simply boycotting won't communicate your disgust.
then again, there are always going to be people new to the hobby who want a pretty neon-blue parrotfish
