Pictus and Bristlenose a few questions..

Hey,

I'm thinking about putting some bottom dwellers in my 4x2x2 120g with my Green Terror and I've got a few questions that I didn't know where to put.

I've read pictus like groups, but I haven't seen any number given. So I'm looking for the sort of numbers people recommend or keep themselves.

Also, do pictus eat algae?

And would pictus and bristlenoses get along?

pictus dont eat algee in my tank i have plenty lol i have a small school of three pictus i also have brushy nose they get along fine lol i also have a gold saum /green terrorhes huge and all three get along fine

The absolute smallest group you should even consider for pictus would be 3. but for me and for most people ive spoken with 6 is a good number for a pictus school. They do not eat algae, in fact they are more of a carnivore than anything else. They should be fine with bristlenose. The bigger the school the less the pictus will bother other fish, and the more caves you have the happier your bristlenoses will be.

Pictus Catfish WILL eat algae wafers, but not algae like plecos. They do like groups, but let's say you have 3 pictus catfish, there are numerous hiding places throughout the tank also, when another fish or pictus catfish swims by another's hiding spot, they will get very territorial, (not aggresive and chase them around, just so they leave the area)


BUT, it you have 3 pictus catfish in a tank without hiding places, they will swim in groups

I had one spotted pictus that hid constantly, until I added a pair of three-lines. They are all active and lively, especially at feeding time.

I also have a L144 bushy nose/bristle nose pleco with the pictus cats and cichlidds. It does just fine for me. I got that pleco because the LFS had it in a tank with Exodons, and if it survived in there I figured there would not likely be a problem with my fish.
