pictus catfish and oscar?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I'd also recommend against it for the reasons everyone else has said and the reasons in my signature. Best catfish to put with an oscar IMHO would be a good sized red tail catfish.

4 line or ornates are a better choice but if the pictus is full grown and you grew out the oscar with them, provide space and hides i wouldn't see an issue. Oscars are not aggressive, just territorial. if you have just the O and 6 footer I'd try, also I've never given my oscars live foods.

I wouldn't if it was me although I have never mixed one with Oscars. I did try a Featherfin Synodontis but it kicked right off so had to move him out and now lives with my River Cooter and they seem to be besties so happy days it worked out. As previously stated Oscars can get well nasty, yes they are all a little different in personality but some behaviour is deep rooted in the dna so you'll 100% be taking a gamble with compatibility. The problem with Oscars is they can be so individual so in that respect people can get lucky were others aren't so lucky. I think you will get differing opinions from people but mine would be don't risk it. Also another thing to be aware of is Oscar aggression more of the time gets worse with age, just something to keep in mind if it initially works out for you.

Take it from my personal experience. Dont do it.

I put my pictus in my 125 gallon with my flowerhorn and African cat after I grew it out thinking it would be okay. That night the flowerhorn ate it and I had to net him and remove the barb with my needle nose fishing pliers from its mouth. The flowerhorn survived but never again.
