I have a 90g with many hiding spots. I am interested in two or three pictus cats and have a featherfin catfish. Would pictus and a featherfin get alone in a 90g?

Thanks

i think so, though you might wanna go with a minimum of 3 for the pictus cat

My syno never bothers my pictus or any other cats (except my pleco when it gets rude)

As a rule, they should be fine. Exceptions appear quite rare wherein a eupterus would be aggressive but it'd be almost species-indiscriminate (excluding other synos).

You won't see your pretty, quirky pictus much, my guess is. Unless you get a good number, like a dozen.

I was thinking of overall having 4 or 5 of them, but I wanted to be sure first with the eupterus. The more the better with pictus, but I'm adding slowly to make sure the eupterus is alright with the arrangement. Thanks again guys.

There are pros and cons to stepwise addition. It's a gamble either way imho :)

Would it be wise to forgo the pictus entirely? I thought of maybe adding another featherfin instead, but considering its only 4 ft I don't want to cram. All that's in there is a eupterus and some large dithers

I'd not say that pictus is not a good idea.

The width must be 2 ft?

Eupterus is a solitary, territorial riverine syno. There are exceptions but most usually there'd be anything from all out war to firm pecking order enforcement with two eupterus in one tank. Many resort to having more synos - the more synos, the more dilute and more tolerable would be the enforcement. I'd probably get 3-5 eupterus.

I've had lots of synos together on one tank before without any problems but the mix was plain crazy: http://www.planetcatfish.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=30939&hilit=120+gal

Thanks much. Kept getting conflicting info on eupterus. Read on one hand some don't mind company and on the other they're extremely territorial (which I knew) but tolerate other synos. The straight info is appreciated.

For the record the syno fell into my lap a bit. I was at a pet store two years ago looking for the smaller, community synos from asia (and knew of the featherfin itself and was trying to avoid a mismatch).. same old story. Pet store employee was careless, I kept asking to make sure it was not a featherfin, and it was after all a featherfin. The fish was baby sized, very very small, so the large fin wasn't there otheerwise I woukdve known

I just lucked out since my tank is both fairly sized and basically empty so I kept him. He's had the run for two yrs so far
