Pictus cats eating small fish?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
^^ this, spotted pictus which are more common 4-6" four line pictus 8-10"

If you do get them, be very mindful of their dorsal fin and barbs, they both tend to get stuck in nets VERY easily (I have found that using a gladware or some type of plastic tub to catch them when the need arises works very well). A guy at my LFS also said that if you somehow manage to get stabbed by the barb, it hurts... a lot.

But they are gorgeous fish with awesome personalities, and the first fish that everyone goes "WOW" at. When they quarrel with each other or are annoyed, they make weird buzzing noises.

They WILL eat the tetras eventually, the pictus cats are super fast and never full. Ate all my neons that I tried out overnight. FAIL.

I have one and they eat feeders and will attack anything that goes in its cave or territory. Mine has not eaten anything small besides feeders. They have great personality so i would go for it!

i had a pair that ate everything from guppies to bleeding heart tetras nearly 2.5" long plus fins. thye are stomachs with fins. also my pair was easily 7 inches the one probably was 8 before the tiger barbs nipped his tail fin to bits

ya i didnt believe it when i bought them, within 1 night when they ate 21 neons and 14 glo light tetras i believed it enough...

Pictus Catfish, Pimelodus pictus max out at about 7" but are usually 4-5"

Four-lined pimelodus Catfish, Pimelodus blochii, a close relative and look-alike, will max out at around 10"
seems to make more sense
