These fish are awesome! I had one back in the day and it died. I have not seen one in person since. I am trying to hunt one or two down for my tank right now and so far no luck.

What I am wondering is, is this just a color morph of the midas or are midas bread with another fish to get this color pattern? I just watched a youtube video of one and the author of the video said it was actually a flowerhorn. I don't buy it.

i mean his fish might be a flowerhorn, but normal piebald/creamsicle midas are pure midas its just a color variation, i actually have one growing out in my tank right now that hasnt peeled yet and am planning on getting a second one to grow out. i love these guys, i actually was never really into amphilophus but the longer i have this guy the more im liking them and i think its so fun growing them out and not knowing exactly how they are going to turn out :) i think mine came from ira but not sure if he still stocks them or not

Jeff Rapps generally has a good selection of Midas. Check him out in the vendors forum. Tangled Up In Cichlids.

yeah it def looks like a piebald midas to me, but there are some weird flowerhorn mixes out there that look very close to the real species they are mainly mmixed with so thats why im careful to classify a fish as pure that someone thinks is a mix, it very well could be a flowerhorn made from midas that just happens to show strong midas characteristics. but in general actual creamsicle midas are pure midas and not flowerhorns

That looks like a Midas/RD to me, except for the blood-red eyes. You normally don't see such intense eyes on a Midas, but that is the only thing that resembles a Flowerhorn.

Creamsicle Midas are my absolute favorite fish! I have had two and had to downsize :-( But I can't wait to get another. They are so stunning. Surprisingly enough, Petsmart tends to have really good looking juvies. I check there regularly to see if there are any with interesting patterns.

I had one that I really regret getting rid of, but had to when I came into the military. I currently am growing out a F2 Male who is starting to shown signs of going creamsickle, but is currently a solid bright orange with acouple small spots of white. Here is a Video of my old male, but due to my 2mega pixel camera at he time it doesen't do him justice. He is also the fish in my Avatar.

Here he is solo.

Awesome fish man! Very nice. Yeah, I think I may end up having to just go to petsmart for some midas. The petstore I am working with is hesitant to order them with out having them prepaid due to their agression. Lame. But I don't think they have actually found piebald's yet. They're suppose to call me back today.

So I was just checking on Jeff Rapps' website for some piebalds or really just checking period because I hear about his fish all the time. He has another amp. that resembled a piebald but it wasn't a midas, it was a xiloaensis. After getting on youtube again, which I know isn't the most credible source for information as any moron with a camera can post a video, I noticed a video entitled red devil and it too had the same piebald/creamsicle coloration. I know these fish all come from the same family of the amphilophus so they all look fairly similar in body shape, and even in color. But are they so interbred that this creamsicle coloration is in all of them? What's the deal?
