Pike characin or spotted gar?

Hey! My lfs had this fish for sale as a spotted gar but after doing some research he doesn’t look like one to me. What do you guys think? Also, could his snout be injured? Thank you for your help ?

Some lfs will keep true gars with false gars for a good cover ? depending on the state of course haha

Its probably a Boulengerella, likely Boulengerella maculata. Cool fish...
