i caught a 12 inch chain pickeral today.. think he can be tankmates with a 6 inch pike cichlid or will the pickeral kill em??

they are bad asses, i wouldnt do it

ya they might be fine at first but the moment he get hungery and u dont feed him righy awat he has a meal swiming right next to him lol. how big is ur tank

I wouldn't risk it either but these two fish live in very different types and temps of water. Pike cichlids are tropical and I'm not sure if a chain pickerel can tolerate those high temps for extended periods of time... Good Luck

for sure if u try it keep us posted, i wanna see some pics :)

I bet the water the pickerel came from was 50 degrees or less and the pike should be around 80. not a good mix. And I think that your pike would be lunch.

heres some pics for ya.. in the 125 we now have the jag/dorado/pike cichlid/crappy/sunny/chain pickerel and alot of feeders.. in the 55 is my payara and blue lobster with alot of feeders.. other 55 is 4 electric yellow cichlids 2 breeders... 2 dinosaur eels.. 3 rainbow sharks.. 1 bowfin. corner tank is 1 discus soon to be more.. 2 clown loaches. one small rope fish. 1 leaf fish. 1 black shark.. also have a 240 gallon with 24 inch arrowanna and jack dempsey shovelnose catfish. florida gar.. plan on eventually moving most of the monsters all to the 240 and eventually upgrading to a 500. bowfin is 4inch. still small enough to be with cichlids but to small for other tanks.. ok im having a problem uploading size is to big and when i try to make it smaller with my photo impression it make is a amp file or somethin...ill keep tryin..

I disagree that the chain will eat the pickerel. Pickerel, as a whole, are very docile fish. They are ambush predators and will strike at fish that are the same size or smaller if they think they can it them. They won't, however, be aggressive towards any fish and can do little to protect themselves from the aggression from other fish. The pike cichlid, sunfish, etc. would do much more damage to the pickerel than the other way around.
