I was watching my belly crawler tonight and started remembering a pike cichlid I had 35 years ago as a kid. I had to get rid of him cuz my tank was too small ( I was 12, what could I do)., but I would like to get the same type again. I remember it was a deep tan color with a black stripe along the body and an eye spot near the tail. It went from 2” to about 8” in about 4 -6 months. That’s all I can remember. Any idea what type this could be. ( sorry but that’s all I remember about him other than having an awesome disposition aka crazy aggressive)

There are over 125 separate species of pike cichlids recognized so far, in the genus Crenicichla.
Add to that, there are variants of some (like C. saxitallis) that look different depending on which river, or which area of South America they come from.
Below is a wild caught saxatillis from Uruguay.
