i see a caudal spot on the tail which is the give away for ven and means not a johanna. probably wouldnt cost to much for that size maybe 30-40 bucks. venz seem to be more common so they are not as expensive.

also a jo would be turning colors at that point wouldnt they?

Out of the 2 that everyone is saying I think that it is a Venezuela. Because everything that I read about Johannas is that they change colors when the get bigger.

100% Crenicichla sp. 'venezuela', and a gorgeous male at that. Looks rather plump and healthy for sure! :)

Btw...when in doubt, look to the snout! ;) Actually the nostrils, but that didn't rhyme as well. Johanna have more tubular nostrils that are set forward more, definitely noticable.

everyone is sayng they change colors, i have a picture of one from shark aquarium thas was huge but it looked just lik my 8-9" one

You've got to remember one thing that is very vital. There are soo many different variants of johanna, and each one has its own unique coloration. Some are going to go through a dramatic color change, while others will be less so.

Also you've got to think about the possibilities of them being some variants of sp. 'lugubris' which look annoyingly similar to some variants of johanna. ;)
