are they a mated pair? have they had any successfull spawns??

Hahaha. These are Saxatilis pikes man. These are the big boys. Nothing like Saxatilis, a whole new level. Larger, more aggressive, and bigger stomachs

. Lugubris pike are annoyingly hard to breed, its only be accomplished a few times, wouldn't even take one hand to count them all.

These are still 'youngins' by the way, they still have several inches to put on. They appear to be a 'bonded' pair too.

thanxs for the info peanut, ive done a little research, and i know they get pretty big, lugubris?? i thought they were lents?

They are 'lenticulata'...;). They are in the Lugubris GROUP of pikes. As in they get in the 14 to 16" range. Saxatilis GROUP pikes normally max out around 12".

Marks already done most of the work. Hardest part of keeping them is getting them to pair up successfully, and it seems he has done just that. Beautiful.

once again thanks for the knowledge, peanut, i think they will make a great addition to my growing collection

As Jer mentioned, they have not actually bred but they do like each other which is a HUGE step with any Lugubris group pike.

And they do get large. Already the male is at 12". I wouldn't recommend putting them in anything smaller than a 125 and a 180 would be even better. Provide lots of driftwood and caves. Sometimes the female needs to escape the male's attention, if even for just a few moments ;) .

As far as tankmates go, I'd avoid most everything from CA and stick with SA's. The smaller the tank the more likely they are to murder their tankmates. Ideally I'd keep them as a specimen pair with some large, hardy dithers such as Red Hooks or Tinfoil Barbs. Right now they share a tank with Red Hooks, Hoplarchus, Cichla, Motoro Rays & a few odd plecos.

I think you forgot an apostrophe and a "t" in that paragraph. Hence the confusion.
