Pike is coughing

well, he hasn't eaten. so there is no poo to speak of.

His diet is Hikari cichlid pellets. I threw in some meal worms about a week ago, but he was totally grossed out and didn't even try any.
He just had his pellets instead.
 
Yes on new fish. (but i got the new fish a few weeks ago) No on live food.

And i treated the whole tank with Parasite Treatment already.... (after getting new fish)

If they were gill flukes, would they be hard to see even close up like in those pictures??
 
I started a thread about the same thing but it was my GT that was doing it. I didint get any replies so I just let it be. IDK what was wrong but after a couple of days he was eatting again and was back to normal. Good luck!!
 
Ang, yes, they would be hard to see.

As far as parasite medications go, though, you have to treat for the entire life cycle of a parasite -- more like weeks rather than days. Use a specific fluke medicine rather than a groad spectrum product. For future reference, the Mela and Pima "fixes" are really pretty empty treatments. Water changes and very targeted medications are always more effective.

Don't sweat anything unless and until the fish really starts to lose weight. Fish have very strong recovery powers. Just don't complicate matters by adding stress with a shotgun medication approach. A little salt, some extra water changes, and a fluke med may be the ticket.

Ok cool. I mainly was using the Mela/Pima fixes to help heal some fins on my snook from when the Pike took a couple chomps on him.
It works great for that. But i'll stop that for now and look for some Fluke Medication and keep up with the salt and water changes.

Ok, well the Parasite treatment i was using. Jungle Labs Parasite treatment contains the type of Fluke medication that i read is good for eradicating them.

it has
[FONT=Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif]metronidazole, praziquantel, trichlorfon, diflubenzuron.

The first initial dose was last tuesday. the last one was this past Monday.
It says for external parasites, continue treatment once a week for three weeks.
So i dosed again today and i will again next week.

So i guess we'll see.

Remembe, if you're making water changes during this process, you have to make up medication for the lost water.

The directions. It says to dose the whole tank, then do a water change before the next dose, and dose for the whole tank again.

so each time i do a water change i dose the whole tank afterwards.
They are the big fizzy tabs. One big tablet treats 50 gallons. SO i use 3 tablets since i cant break them up to just dose 125 gallons.

I hope this works.
