Do you think a pike or bichir would make a great arrival to my tank? Currently all my fish are juvies. I have a trimac, cuban, grammode and a loisellei in my 240gal. They are all at the 1.5" mark so if at any time now would be the best to introduce new fish. The LFS has some spangled piked cichlids(white spot pike) would look nice. I was also thinking of a ornate bichir, but am i bit worried either that that and i go with my original plan with the niger catfish. What do you think?

I think either, or both, could work. Just depends on what species. You'll want a pike that gets to a decent size so it can hold its own with your other cichlids.

Chances are if you get a pike it will dominate in that tank. Especially if you get a pike that is a little bit larger than those other fish. That large of tank makes it definitely do able. Saxatilis group pikes generally stay smaller though, so with those fish you should look into Lugubris group pikes. It can still work with Saxatilis, but just think you'll have better luck with Lugubris.

Definitely get the niger though, they are great fish! :)

Due to aggression, I recommend a polypterus. An adult Ornatipinnus would work.

Cren. lenticulata or marmorata have great coloring. Cren. lenticulata is available on aquabid right now. . . :)

Some other good ones would be Cren. acutirostris, Cren. sp. 'atabapo I' /'atabapo II', Cren. sp. 'tapajos I'/'tapajos II', and Cren. cincta. :)

Rapps is selling some of the above mentioned species, others you might just have to look around and hopefully luck out on.

As Wurm stated, there is gonna be more aggression with the pikes if you get them, so if you are worried about that, go with an ornate then.

xingu 1's are sweet too... common name is orange pike.

Patience normally pays off. ;) Good luck with your search!! :) You could just ask your LFS to get in some orange pikes. That is what Crenicichla sp. 'xingu I' is normally sold as. ;)
