Alright, so I doubt anyone remembers but I had bought this Bellycrawler Pike from this old cruddy pet store thinking it was actually a Snakehead lol.

It's been a couple of weeks now and the Pike is doing great for the most part. It's at about 4.5" long. It's no longer shy and is very active around the 75 gallon tank he's in. He gets along with my Bichirs and eats very well.

My only problem with him is that he seems to breathe very quickly. He's fine in every other department - perfect finage and good coloration, but his gills and mouth are constantly opening and closing.

I fear he might have something or if anything might have something up with his gills. Could it even be something like dropsy? The store I got him from was pretty terrible. He was held in a 10 gallon tank with about 15-20 Rafael and Irredesant catfish so I wouldn't be surprised honestly.

How are the water parameters?

Should be about 20 nitrate, 0 nitrite, PH 7, but that was a couple days ago with my last test strip, and I did a 25 gallon change yesterday. I'll get another test kit and check the water later today.

If you don't have a kit with the liquid reagent solutions, I would recommend taking a water sample to a LFS for more accurate testing. The little belly crawler may be more sensitive to something like an ammonia spike than your other fish.

well i just went and looked at my belly crawler and he looks like he does to and the gills open really far somtimes so u prob don't have anything to worry about

Oh, well it's no big deal I ended up actually giving it to a friend lol. Yeah, I agree, all other parameters were fine and he seemed quite healthy.

The last time I had done a water change was maybe a week or a week and a half before I made this thread.
