hi , i have a orange pike at a bout 2 inc in a 4*2*2 and i want to put 2 anableps in with him,, but they are brackish,,,, is it a good idea to subject my pike to salt or is it a big no no:confused:

I dont think it is a good idea, but just hang out and wait for what the rest of the lads around here think.

Anableps and the sp. 'xingu I' won't really cohabit with each other peacefully for very long. Once the pike starts gettin size and aggression it will REALLY lay the stomp on them. However, how brackish do the anabs have to be? I normally add about 1.5 tablespoons for every five gallons of my aquarium water. Its not brackish, but it does help the colors and vitality of the fish. Not sure if that is enough for the anabs. though. I definately would be cautious using any more than that with the pike as well, as it could prove to be fatal. HTHs

The pike probably wont do too good in brackish bro....just use the aquarium salt for freshwater aquariums, the pike should do well...

I wouldnt think brackish could work for pikes. if ya dont mind being the 1st, give it a try. that is if you have another tank to put the orange in case the brackish doesnt work.

I'm with P though as I also add some salt ea water change. Aquarium salt not marine.

Just how much salt are you adding to bring out the color? Probably shouldnt do it in my planted tanks, but it should be cool in my growup tanks.

I normally add about 1.5 tablespoons for every five gallons of my aquarium water. Its the Walmart type of salt that looks like its in the milk cartons. Yup, cheap and very effective! BOOYA!!

Stoked on that info. Thanks P. How long before I will see results and should I do it now or during water change?
