I just got a 30 gallon setup. Wanting to put a couple pikes in theree. Lf suggestions on species. And also some growth rate info. Reason being I can use this as a grow out tank for my 130 gal and I haveto reseal. But would rather keep them upstairs in the living room in the 30. Post pics if u got em

Going to be dwarfs if you are keeping them in the 30gal.

Crenicichla regani
Crenicichla notophthalmus
Crenicichla compressiceps

Those are the more common ones. You might be able to get away with Crenicichla proteus in there as well.

As for a grow out, with enough filtration, you could keep some Lugubris/Saxatilis group pikes in there for about four months before they start pushing the boundaries.

I've heard about dwarfs but can't find much info on them and very few youtube videos. I did see one video of a breeding pair and fry. One had like a black o on its top find outlined in yellow or something. Trying to find something predatory and colorful. But I like the way pikes r shaped.

Just not very many pikes coming in yet, you'll have to be patient or keep looking around.

Keep your eye peeled on aquabid. They often have goodies for sale. :) Main person bringing in pikes currently is John (snookn21) so you might want to check with him. HTHs.

dwarf pike for the win! can't go wrong, small fish with attitude & personality. set up some caves, wide bodied tetras, you got a very nice tank with minimal maintenance

Well I live in east tn. Only 2 fish stores locally. They will order stuff if there main people they order from has n e. I dunno which out of those three look better. Havebt really had a chance to look at them. My truck got broke into @ work the other night so I been dealing with that ****.
