pikes in 55

if you want to do a SMALL community you could go with a pair of regani, or compressiceps. you could easily mix them with some keyhole cichlids a small fancy pleco, smaller catfish like corys smaller loaches. the regani is my favorite of the dwarves due to the fact that i have one. you could also get away with a school of larger tetras like diamonds, or emperors. if you want something that will get a bit bigger maybe a smaller saxatilis?? but it wil have to be kept ALONE! you could go with a sveni. they are very common and i.m.o. they are gorgeous! what would you rather do? one fish or small aggressive community?

a small aggressive community would be really cool... i liked the looks of the belly crawlers too, are they considered a dwarf pike?

Belly-crawlers get to about 7". I don't know about their aggression levels, but I'm 100% sure you can keep a bonded pair in a 55g. Take note of the word in bold.

You should be good with a smaller Sax species, like a lucius, anything in the 6-9 inch range would work. You can have tank mates with a pike, they are typically not as aggressive as people claim, there attitudes do vary and they do not really run from other fish, but in general, if is not conspecific they should be alright. Maybe a Sax type pike with a few Convicts or a JD, or both and some bottom dwellers would work, just keep up on the maintanence and it should be fine for a while, get them small and raise them together.....Make sure there are enough hiding places for seperate territories.

A couple of nice Sax's would go great with a nice group of shoaling species. Maybe a small 4-5 inch cichlid such as a Neetroplus Nematapus or the like. I always like the Neet because they are very tough and hold there own against much larger cichlids. And if you do a pair of Neets they color up very nice black with a white vertical stripe.

sax sp pike with some congo tetras and maybe firemouth cichlids or some nice honduran red points. there are alot of choices out there. pick the pike you want since it will probably be the hardest to get and go from there. you will def want some larger tetras though they really set off a tank.
