It doesn't appear to be a platinum fish to me. Isn't it just a white background that is making it pale?

Actually there was a guy in Japan that had 3 arapaimas. One platinum, one half platinum and one regular.

The one he called half platinum looks like the fish johnptc posted. Although I understand what you mean by the white tub lightening the fish' color.
