Pimping the diet

LOL, yes you the man Frank. :)

Vitachem is great to use as a supplement on fresh/frozen, if fresh/frozen is the main staple of the fishes diet. I used it when feeding mussels to a puffer that I once owned. But if someone is already feeding high quality pellets even 3-4 times a week, there's really no reason to add Vitachem to the mix.
I am not against feeding frozen to fish, I'm just not a big fan of feeding farmed tilapia fillet.

What other frozen fish would you recommend ?

Sorry for breaking your chops Neil you by now I never get bored with picking your brain.

Something a little more local, and a LOT less farmed. For myself that would be more along the lines of whitefish, walleye, pike, wild salmon, trout, smelt, carp, etc.

Makes perfect sense for some reason (and yes now that I think about it it's stupid since ummm we eat local fresh) I always thought frozen farmed would have been healthier....parasites and what not.

My advice when dealing with fresh fish products, buy fresh, freeze for 48 hrs at 0F (-18C) to destroy any potential parasites, and use up within 30 days or so.

The USDA as well as most state health departments have outlined what they feel is the "best" way to unthaw fresh fish products. You can find those methods in the link below.

This is from a few years back, but another link that you may find interesting.

IMHO, even with organs intact, a vitamin supplement for fish is key to a long healthy life. This is fairly well documented in commercial aquaculture, public aquaria displays, etc. I have posted a link to a paper on this subject a few times over the years.
