we got these monster pine cones from cali about 10 years ago. theyve been sitting out drying since then. theyre crazy heavy, so im sure they would sink, do you think theyd be safe in an aquarium? if so theyd look ballin

not sure if theyd be safe but thats a cool idea!

i know right? hahah thanks
and full of little hiding spots for little fish
i dont see why they wouldnt be safe, theyve been drying for 10 years, but better safe than sorry

ill get some pics of them

i think they would rot if they were submerged in a tank....post some pics of them with something for size reference

Pine Cones rot when wet.
I went on a hike one summer, found some huge pincones and my mom put them in her garden it looked cool then it rained during winter and the pine cones rotted
:(

I seem to remember from Botany class (many years ago), that coniferous trees secrete a resinous substance which acts as an herbicide, preventing seedlings from taking root around it. I don't know for sure about the cones, but I would guess that they also contain this substance.

You might possibly be able to get the cones sealed somehow to where it would be safe for the aquarium, but I dont think you'd go through the trouble for that haha.

I agree. I wouldn't want to turn my water into Pine-Sol.
