PINEcones!?!?

Do they smell? I don't know if they'd be ok, but the idea of aquarium water and pine cones brings me to mind of a Pine Sol smell.

Pine trees are not poisionous. They simply use low pH to achieve allelopathy. This acidity is from the leaves (actually the leaves are modified stems) and cones. A few old school fish keepers use pine cones to naturally lower pH. Nowadays Indian Almond leaf is the trend.

really? so this would kill two squirrels with one stone for me, as my pH is too high at 8.1

and to the previous question, they have no smell

I don't know if they're poisonous but they will be sure to rot. Also, I don't think you can seal it enough so they won't rot. There are too many nooks and crannies to be able to completely seal it. The Doctor.
