Pingy Pingy algae eater??

I recently bought this sweet algae eater and it was labeled as a "pingy pingy." Its blackish gold with very distinct scales, like a carp or koi. He's in my coldwater tank (about 63 degrees) and I feed Hikari algae wafers and some tropical floating pellets.
My problem is that since I got him, he is extremely agressive with food. I put a wafer in and he will just knock all the other fish away. To solve this I have been feeding more and breaking the wafers into pieces so that they are spread out throughout the tank. This seemed to be working but now I am noticing my black moore with lots of tears in his tail fins. I put some melafix in the water to help him heal, but I don't want this to keep happeneding.
It's only been 3 days, will this "pingy pingy" calm down, or did I buy an agressive fish??

Sounds like you have a Garra pingi pingi, they can be a tad aggressive and probably best to remove it especially as black moores are a slow moving fancy goldfish.
 
Oh, yeah. Those pingis are great fish, but very active in a bad way. If you have to choose between the two, consider keeping the pingi. They're never boring.
 
Garra are very neat fish and adept at algae scrubbing. They are ill suited for Goldfish Companions though, alike to Discus or any other cautious and easily stressed fish. They can often be suited for cichlid tanks. They like lots of flow & oxygen. They do well singly or in groups that are predominately female heavy.

Recently had 15 Garra flavatra arrive at the store, all which sold in 3 days. Best price I've ever seen them, $9.99, as opposed to the more common $18-26. Not that these fish are commonly available anyways.

It should be noted that Flying Foxes, Siamese Algae Eaters, and Chinese Algae eaters MAY adopt a similar personality too. It can be hard to find good algae eating species to live with goldfish, especially the fancy varieties.
 
I am sad about this! I thought I finally found an active tank mate...will it survive in a warmwater cichlid tank? I have an african tank that is about 75 degrees
 
I called the place I bought it and they said I can return him. I took some pics of my moore's fins the show them. Maybe it's because he's big (11 cm) Oh well. Most definitely a cool fish if someone wants a much better fish than a pleco
