pink cons can't do it right

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Pink convicts is a breeding form at least iirc.

If they don't learn after the first few times, don't try to breed them, it will only pass the bad genes on.

they are at it again, and succesful. There's about 40-50 convict fry swimming around while the mother has a close eye on them. Its only been a few days, I hope they pull it off this time around.

i have 2 pink cons, and i am having trouble sexing them. they are around an 1.5-2", one of them is all pink, the other has an orangish belly and top fin. they chase each other around like they want to mate, but i'm not sure if i have both a male and a female, i bought them from an lfs at an inch. how big do they get before they mate?

They should be ready. 2" sounds about right, although I have a few siblings who just chase each other around. One of em is a 4" male with 3 sisters, at 3", and 2".

ok, so with my pink cons, i have one small cave that they never go in, but today, one of them has been rubbing itself against the gravel behind one of the plants, and he seems to chase everything away from here. could this be a possible laying spot? if so, i need to get the eggs out asap because there is an oscar in with them.

Is your oscar 3.5"? if so dont worry about it. I think the cons can handle things till the babies hatch. cons get pretty tough at breeding time. my advice would be just let em go at it, see what happens. I think 2, 2" breeding cons can handle 1, 4" oscar, no problem.

they need to try a couple times for a bit of experience before they get it right.

ok, so i have the pair of pink convicts, and there are now eggs in my tank, and the one without the orange is guarding it (i don't know if it is a male, or if they are both females), and i thought the one with the orange was looking a bit swollen around the belly, but i'm not sure. there are about 75-100 eggs. does it sound like i have a breeding pair, of could i just have a female trying to spawn with another female? do males usually guard the eggs? if they are a breeding pair and the eggs got fertilized, how long does it usually take for eggs to hatch? thanks for the help.

Both male and female will guard the eggs, sometimes taking turns, and if the eggs are indeed fertilized they will likely have hatched by now (2-3 days the norm).
