Syd Barrett released two solo albums after leaving Pink Floyd , has died at the age of 60 from complications arising from diabetes in 2006

after SYD left
songs like "wish you were here" were made
but a few of his idea for songs were great
my personal favorite is "saucer full of secrets"

the albums "dark side of the moon", "wish you were here", and "the wall" were all concept albums, inspired by Syd Barrett's going insane.

incidentally, did you know that The Beatles were recording an album in the same studio, down the hall from Pink Floyd while they were recording "Piper at the Gates of Dawn". The Beatles sat in on a few of their sessions, and came up with "Seargent Pepper's", which was a huge break from their previous style. John Lennon even went to a few Floyd shows, in '66 and early '67.

The Beatle's late 60's transformation was, in part, influenced by the progressive sounds of Pink Floyd.

I read a book about Pink Floyd a while back. full of totally useless knowledge.

Couple of my friends got to see the show they did a while back at the Great Pyramids, I think it was at the millenium?

I never personally got to see them live - shows were far and few between by the time I was old enough to take interest.

Awesome band - didn't know Syd had died too. Shame to see guys who had such a huge impact on the music scene pass on.

The pink floyd show was probably the greatest event of my life. I'm not yet married, and have no kids, so pink floyd is it.

the closest you can get to a show now is the "pulse" DVD. they should release that show on IMAX. I hear the Pink Floyd lazer light shows are pretty cool, too. pink floyd should still tour, but with a "surrogate band". the lights, lasers, and videos are the best part of the show, anyway. the stage is way too big to make out the details of who's on stage.
