Anyone have them?, do they get along with other species and each other? Tell me about them if you have them or have had them in the past? Seen them in LFS? with what other fish, any info helps. Bob

Here's my "yellow-finned" chalceus:

He hung out with this larger, cigar fish:

I suggest a long tank. He uses the eitire length of the 125g he's in. He's about 10 years old & 10"

Theres quite a bit of info on them on the site. They aren't uncommon, just not too many people keep em, which is a shame they are really cool. There are a few species, and in general are quite skitish, and do best either by themselves (not with others of the same species) or in groups larger than 6.

Can you tell me more about the cigar fish with your pink tailed chalceus?

Schooling species. Grows quite large ( I don't think it got to it's full size, before it jumped). It had barbs on it's chin, like a carp. I really don't know much else.

I'm not sure that's the same fish. Mine had red fins & a black edge to each scale. I can't tell if that one has barbs or not. Interesting that this fish linked to is toxic though.

Nevermind... I looked at some more of the pics. That's the fella. Too bad he didn't get the chance to grow that big.

Do you know the scientific name for your cigar fish, I was unable to connect with the link to the information.

Leptobarbus hoevenii

Be warned they are pigs!
