Pink tailed chalceus

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i love these fish, active swimmers, sometimes I think they are diurnal and nocturnal at the same time:ROFL: they eat almost anythin' ,,cool shoalers they are! but you'll need a bigger tank them at thier latter stage

I wouldn't try to keep more than 1 per tank. I tried 4 and ended up with 1. It wasn't pretty.

Here's my yellow-finned chalceus:

Same species, w/yellow fins.

Mine is about 10". VERY skittish! If I approach the tank too quicky or make sudden moves, he slams himself into something & scales are flying. Because of his liking to swim horizontally so much, I wouldn't keep one in anything less than a 125g. Closed lid is a must!

It has yellow fins? More difficult to come by.

yes he does :) so they are rare ? i actually bought him last year . but gave him away to a freind .as i had other ideas for my tank , but he is back ! and he is for keeps now :)

That fish looks outstanding. Congrats, you have a good one there.

Thanks! I think you can see a scale missing by the head. I've gotta remember not to approach the tank too fast. You'd think after 10 years the fish would get used to me?!

There are a few species... In general they tend to be rather skittish and are one of those fish that do better in a big shoal +6 or by themselves, subject to individuals, I'm sure there are people that will say, "well I've got 2" lol. Very pretty fish, they should be more popular than they are. Very very impressive with large shoals.
