Actually, on looking at a few websites, none of the three companies I looked at actually froze their rodents to death. They all stated they euthanized them with CO2 first, then froze them. Suffocating, that's a pleasant way to go. Even the link in the previous post doesn't say how they are killed. It only says they're flash frozen to "ensure freshness."

And if you guys think these animals at these places are treated humanely, you are not thinking clearly. Few animals raised for food are treated humanely, even for human use. Have you seen how dairy cows are treated? How about how veal is produced? Cows are raised from birth in cages so small they can't stand or move much so that their meat is nice and soft in your mouth. C'mon. If human food is raised this way, how do you think rodents are raised? The USDA is responsible for regulating human food production. Who regulates reptile food production? I'm pretty sure the mice raised at my local pet store are treated and killed more humanely than any industrial complex can.

i have seen dogs get the Co2 tank that is some of the saddest sh*t i have seen. and they say it doesnt hurt...

People that feed live animals are the ones that don't care about the health of their own specimen. There are a few that won't take prekilled, but that is in the minority.

Guys, do research on how CO2 actually work. You don't actually suffocate with pure CO2 being pumped into the box. What happen is that it make the mouse sleepy, and then they are rendered unconscious, and eventually their brain shut down permanently. What you guys are thinking of is when people put mice in jars and just seal it off with no CO2 input, now that is cruel and leave them conscious throughout the whole process.

Either way, flicking a pinkie's head will kill it instantly. I have seen lizards completely maul their prey, and it is not pretty. You don't want to feel your guts being ripped apart, and then die of blood loss.

When we are talking about humane killing, we are talking about preventing the animal from suffering pain. Even if it is not for the benefit for the feeder, it is still for the benefit for the predator. We are keeping these animals in captivity, so there is no "wild." In fact, what we consider to be natural can very well kill the animals we keep in captivity.

I don't even know why people try to start an argument against prekilled. There is only two reasons why: Your herp won't take prekilled, or you enjoy putting your herp's life at risk and watch them maul each others.

you know what the best part is, you have the right to do what ever you want. if you wanna feed live, you can. you dont have to listen to all of the people on here critisizing you. its your choice. and if you think they just fall asleep you are wrong. i say the video on youtube of the pound when they euthinize. the dogs are barking and yelping for like at least a minute. it was horrible. and if you think mice are treated any differnt, i feel sorry for you.
people care less about mice than dogs...

large rodent companies use co2 chambers to euthanize the rodents. they just put a small bit of co2 and the rodents pass out then they turn it on full blast to kill them its painless. all the rodents get is light headed. the flash frozen just instantly freezes them when they are already dead, it makes them fresher and have a longer shelf life
